ALLIE + FRANK // DETROIT ATHLETIC CLUB

Black Tie Ballroom Wedding in Detroit

Iconic Style with an Urban View

Allie & Frank chose one of the most iconic spaces in Downtown Detroit for their wedding.  The Detroit Athletic Club exudes old world architectural detail, deep-rooted glamor, and exceptional service.  The place is an experience unto itself.

After getting ready at the Club, the pair went up to a 7th floor terrace for their first look.  Allie’s exquisite lace gown, Frank’s dapper tuxedo and the sweeping views of Detroit skyline make every angle of these romantic moments inspiring and frame-worthy.

Cathedral Ceremony

St. Paul’s on the Lake is a stunning bastion of glory on shore of Lake St. Clair in Grosse Pointe Farms.  In keeping with the December season, Frank’s mom had red poinsettas brought in to adorn the altar and our florist added white floral arrangements on gold pedestals to frame the scene.  Swags of tulle on wooden pews completed our design touches while the bridal party dressed in sophisticated black bore witness in front rows to a meaningful marriage mass.

Cocktails, Candles & Cake

Back at the Club, guests enjoyed cocktails on the main floor lobby which was dressed for the holidays with a statement Christmas tree and lighted garland on fireplace mantles and around doorways.  A white and gold raised-letter sign welcomed guests, a five tiered cake under chandelier lighting was surrounded by candles and rose petals, and guests found their seating cards set around a champagne mirror topped in candles and roses.

Ballroom Glamor

The DAC ballroom is a world unto itself with its painted ceiling, it’s masterpiece art, and its statement chandeliers.  In December, it also features wreaths and garlands with tasteful metallic accents.  Allie wanted to bring a chic yet timeless edge to that classic scene so we worked with our florist to come up with arrangements that felt organic in shape using classic rose and hydrangea blooms.  We incorporated three designs – some tall arrangements on gold stands, traditional height arrangements in gold vases, and arrangements that “grew” from the tabletop without a vase, surrounded in stemmed floating candles.  Down the center of the room, the long head table was adorned with bridesmaid bouquets, petite arrangements with less greenery, and layers of candlelight.   Gold beaded chargers and gold chivari chairs complimented the tones of the room with a light touch against crisp white linens.  The scene was a dream and nearly 300 guests enjoyed a five course dinner and each other’s company before dancing the rest of the night to the music of the renowned Simone Vitale Band.  At midnight, the party moved to the club’s bowling alley for late night fare, open bar, and fun bowling to end the unforgettable night.
