Contemporary Style with Classic Soul

A Boston Wedding

Ceremony at St. Cecilia’s

Meg & Joey started planning their wedding in the upper peninsula of Michigan at their family’s cottage on Lake Michigan but in the course of planning, they decided to celebrate in their home city of Boston.  A big part of that decision was the specialness that St. Cecilia’s and priest Father John hold for them.

We worked with Mellow Botanical to tie roses to the pew ends and added statement floral pieces to the altar to accent an already stunning space.

Photos around Boston

Between ceremony and cocktail hour, Meg & Joey’s photographer (Brian D Smith) took them to the iconic Boston Commons and historic Acorn Street (reportedly the most photographed street in America).

Reception with a View

Boston College Club is on the 36th floor of a skyscraper in the financial district.  It has floor to ceiling windows on three sides of the room with views of city skyline out to Boston Harbor.  Meg had a vision of guests dining as the sun set and the city lights began to shine so we planned their reception around sunset and the shifting of evening light to candlelight was just as magical as we had imagined.

The space has a contemporary aesthetic with repeating black framed windows so we designed the seating to be a long table with contemporary black folding chairs, repeating simple vases of white roses alternating with candles.  Place settings featured silver rimmed glassware that reflected the light luxuriously, a taupe & silver patterned napkin, a silver lined bread & butter plate that reminded us of both Meg’s grandmother’s china and disco balls, hand-lettered place cards, and a monogrammed menu designed by Meg.  The composition was a fusion of contemporary chic and classic soul.

Disco balls hung from a black frame around the seating chart and those puddled at the base were moved to the black and white dance floor during dinner where the kids especially loved playing with them.  Even the photobooth company brought disco balls as a special prop.
